Project Description

A lovely little orphan build. Most of the shells on arrival where very yellow and dirty. Add a few cracks to the wrap + lifting seams and work needed to be done…

Before After

These drums all came from online auctions in various condition. The key is to colour match the wraps as vintage drums (especially white) yellows or darkens over the years. Add cigarette smoke and other air pollutants and it can be a challenging task.

This is what was done:

  • Shells stripped, cut back where required to balance the colour and polished
  • Hardware soaked, cleaned, polished and oiled/greased
  • Hoops stripped to bare wood and tung oil applied
  • Reso heads cleaned to remove grime and stick marks
  • Batter heads replaced with Remo coated Ambassadors (Pre- int on 12 and 16)

This kit was sold in PX for the Gretsch Elite project
